New Release Snap Judgements 8/18/2008

This week we have that has been over 10 years in the making, a remake of a game much older than that and the linchpin between a title from last year and one from the next.

Too Human (Xbox 360)

Silicon Knights has been working on Too Human, in one form or another, for over a decade. The demo was released last month and was one of the most played game on Xbox Live. The demo has some interesting elements that have become staples in many genres, such as character customization and upgrading. The gameplay has been simplified from other hack and slash titles but that may not necessarily be a good thing. While the demo was downloaded over 1 million times, the final product may not be as lucky.

Galaga: Legions (XBLA)

If any game, especially a seminal title like Galaga, is going to be given a similar treatment as Space Invaders was with Space Invaders Extreme, than it will be a simple choice as to whether or not it must be picked up. The simple, yet fun gameplay of Galaga with flashy, HD graphics and funky tecno beats is a winner in my book.

Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty (PSN) – Pick of the Week

For all the amazing short form titles, like Galaga: Legions, that XBLA is known for, the PlayStation Network is soon becoming the home of top flight long form downloadable titles. Ratchet and Clank has not been a staple of my gaming diet but it has always been of interest to me. Being able to dive in to a downloadable chunk of the franchise with AAA graphics, new enemies and levels and a very palatable $15 price tag is an offer that is impossible to pass up.

What will you be picking up this week?
