Free Map, Gamer Pics for Bungie Day ‘08 [Update]

Bungie’s weekly update has just let it be known that, as part of the Bungie Day (July 7th for all those that do not pray at the alter of Bungie) festivities, the makers of Halo will be giving away a remake of the Halo: Combat Evolved map Chill Out call Cold Storage as well as 7 exclusive gamerpics which will only be available on Monday.

Chill Out is still considered to be amongst the best and most well liked maps in the entire Halo franchise and the remake, which was first unveiled at an MLG event in San Diego a few weeks ago, brings back a lot of the notable features of the original with a Halo 3 coat of paint on top. For the low price of on-the-house, how can anyone argue that this is not a great present to the millions of Halo fans around the world?

Also to commemorate the day, the price of the Legendary map pack, which features Blackout, Avalanche and Ghost Town, will be receiving a price drop to 600 MS Points (approximately $7.50).

Who is going to be joining the Video Game Jocks for a Cold Storage marathon on 7/7?

VGJ Review: UEFA Euro 2008 (Xbox 360)

While I am not a soccer fan, I have always loved soccer video games. The fact that goals are both tough to come by and deliver that rewarding feeling when scored has always made for a good time. UEFA Euro 2008 does a great job of delivering that same visceral feeling of scoring goals and playing the beautiful game while giving players greater control and more to do on the pitch than ever before.

UEFA Euro 2008 goes above and beyond the normal pass and shoot options found in most soccer titles and gives players the ability to apply modifiers, through the bumper and trigger buttons, to take the action to a new level. Differing the strength and level of lob and through passes makes the game fluid and adds to the level of control over the other nine players on your team. That control makes it less necessary, especially for those without knowledge of proper soccer tactics, to go one-on-ten with the other team. (more…)

New Release Snap Judgements 6/30/2008

This week ispretty limited in terms of big releases. We have a another installment in the Guitar Hero franchise and we have a repackaging of a top tier Xbox 360 game to get you excited for the next installment in that franchise.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2) Pick of the Week

The first iteration of Guitar Hero that focuses on a singular band, although it does have bands that Aerosmith has been influenced by or they like, is aimed at the Boston rockers and, for Guitar Hero and Aerosmith fans, is easily the game to get this week. The Guitar Hero controls are always great and the game, if you like Steve Tyler and Co., should feature a good roster of songs.

Gears of War Refresh (Xbox 360)

Unless you have been living under a rock or in a bomb shelter in central Los Angeles - I did just go with a Blast From The Past reference for some reason - you probably already own and played Gears of War. If you are a new owner of the console and want to get excited for the sequel, which comes to retail this November, you can pick the game up for far cheaper than the $39.99 price tag and, with an idea of a story at best, you aren’t missing much any way.

What will you be picking up this week?

VGJ Spore Creature Creator Contest

The Video Game Jocks are giving away a copy of the Spore Creature Creator. How do you win? Well, I’m glad you asked.

In order to win yourself a copy of the Spore Creature Creator, you will have to download the demo of the game, create a creature which you believe best represents Platform Nation Editor-in-Chief, and friend/enemy of the show, SteveHide19 and send in a picture of your creation.

The best representation of Steve, as judged by us, wins a copy of the game and fame… in the form of being mentioned on our show of course.

Good luck with the creations and send in those entries!
